Guidance Notes

The materials provided in this section of the site support Part 3 of the IB Language A: Literature syllabus – Literary genres.

The materials are grouped into three categories from which you can select in the menus above:

  1. Planning (guidance for students on how to structure a comparative essay for Paper 2)
  2. Assessment (sample student essays, with teacher’s comments, along with guidance for the teacher)
  3. Resources (a range of worksheets on poetry, drama and literary analysis).

A full list of the materials available for Part 3 is provided in the Resources section. In this section you will also find a list of images and selected images from Chapter 3 of the coursebook, available in PDF format for projection or for printing out. A list of links to useful websites is also provided.

Previews of the files you select are displayed on the left, with a Download button below. Click on this button and save the files to your computer.

All sheets except image sheets are supplied in PDF and Word format, and can either be printed out and used as given, or edited to suit your needs. Student worksheets can be printed and completed by hand, or supplied to students in editable format, to allow them to be completed on-screen, and then printed out or saved as digital documents.

These materials support Chapter 3 of the Cambridge IB English Literature coursebook. The materials can be used to supplement and extend the coursebook content, and links to the appropriate coursebook pages are given on individual sheets.

The authors and publishers acknowledge the sources of copyright material as stated on each sheet, as well as undisclosed students of Wellington College, Crowthorne, UK, and Kings College School, Wimbledon, UK, to whom we are grateful for the permissions granted. While every effort has been made, it has not always been possible to identify the sources of all the material used, or to trace all copyright holders. If any omissions are brought to our notice, we will be happy to include acknowledgements on request.
